About this product
How the Hedge Shears works
Hedge shears do one job: they take the soft, leafy growth off the outside of a hedge so it keeps a neat, even shape. The long steel blades cover a wide strip with every stroke, which makes straight edges easier to achieve than with a small pair of secateurs.
One blade is plain and the other has a gently waved edge. The waves grip the stems as the blades close, so leaves and thin twigs are cut instead of slipping away from the edge, which is a common annoyance with smooth blades.
The handles are long and finished in yellow and black, with soft rubber at the ends so the palms are not squeezed against bare metal. A rubber stop between the handles takes the shock when the blades close, which keeps the wrists fresher over a long border.
Before you buy the Hedge Shears
Hand shears suit small hedges, topiary and shrubs where a power trimmer would be noisy or overkill. Choose a pair that feels balanced in your hands, because you will use them for long stretches. For long runs of tall hedge, a powered trimmer will save your arms.

No. They are meant for soft growth and twigs. For stems as thick as a finger or more, use loppers or a pruning saw.
