About this product
How the Ball-Peen Hammer works
A claw hammer is made for nails; a ball-peen hammer is made for metal. The head is hardened steel, forged for strength, and is balanced so that the weight does the work rather than the arm.
One side is a flat, slightly domed face for driving chisels and punches or striking sheet metal. The other is a rounded ball, called the peen, which spreads and shapes metal when you hit it, rounds off rivet heads and work-hardens surfaces. The two faces make it a versatile tool in a workshop.
The handle is smooth wood in a yellow-brown finish, shaped to a comfortable swing and fitted tight to the head with a wedge. Wood absorbs shock better than steel, and it is easily replaced. Always check the head is secure before use and wear eye protection.
Before you buy the Ball-Peen Hammer
A ball-peen hammer belongs in every workshop, as the flat face drives punches and chisels while the ball end shapes metal and sets rivets. Choose a head weight you can swing comfortably, and replace the handle at the first sign of damage.
