About this product
How the Jack Plane works
When you want to flatten a board or fit a door, a saw is too rough and sandpaper is too slow. A jack plane does both in minutes: its long sole rides across the timber, and the blade shaves off high spots until the surface is flat.
The body is cast iron with a flat, machined sole. A steel blade and cap iron are bedded at an angle and held by a lever cap, and adjusting wheels set the depth of cut and the blade's tilt. A polished wooden knob at the front and a handle at the rear give control and comfortable pushing.
A jack plane is typically around the middle of the plane family, large enough to flatten but small enough to control. Carpenters use it for doors, windows, worktops and furniture. Keep the blade sharp and the sole clean, and it will last for generations.
Before you buy the Jack Plane
A jack plane is the all-round bench plane, used to take down high spots and true an edge. It rewards patience and a sharp iron. It is an excellent tool for farm carpentry, door fitting and making repairs to wooden implements.
