About this product
How the Plumb Bob works
Long before spirit levels, builders used a weight on a string to check that walls stood upright. The method still works, and it works over long heights where a level is too short, such as a tall wall, a column or a well shaft.
The bob is a heavy cone of steel and brass with a sharp point at the bottom, and a hole through the top to tie the cord. The heavy, symmetrical shape pulls the string perfectly straight and settles quickly, and the point shows exactly where the vertical line lands on the ground.
A coil of white string comes with it, ready to be tied on. Use it to transfer points from a ceiling to a floor, to line up scaffolding, to set up formwork, or to check a fence post. It never needs batteries or calibration, and it lasts a lifetime.
Before you buy the Plumb Bob
A plumb bob is the simplest and most reliable way to check that a wall or post is truly vertical. It needs no batteries and never goes out of calibration. Use it for building, fencing, surveying and even checking that a ladder is set safely.
