How the Turf Topdresser works
The turf topdresser is a precise maintenance machine for spreading sand, soil and other granular materials evenly over sports fields, golf courses and large landscaped areas. Even spreading improves drainage and keeps the surface consistent, which supports healthier turf even in extreme heat and under heavy use.
The spreading system gives the operator accurate control with less wasted material, on natural and artificial turf alike. Capacity ranges from 0.5 to 1.5 m³ with a working width of 1.0–6.0 m, driven hydraulically (or by PTO as an option) from standard tractor outlets. The hopper is galvanised or stainless steel, a rubber belt or chain conveyor feeds twin spinner discs or a drop-spread system, and wide flotation tyres are kind to turf. It is also used for compost, rubber crumb, seed and fertiliser.
Calibrate the spread rate on a small area before treating a whole pitch. Use dry sand or dry material for the cleanest flow, and set the conveyor speed and gate opening to match. The topdresser is hydraulically driven in most set-ups, so check your tractor outlet flow of 20–40 L/min.
