About this product

How the Rotary Cultivator works

The rotary cultivator, also known as a rotavator, is powered from the tractor's PTO. Its spinning blades turn and break the soil, and they also chop up the crop residue left after harvest so it can mix back into the ground. The blades help balance the nutrients through the topsoil as they work.

It is made in four widths, from 1,300 mm for 30–45 HP tractors to 2,050 mm for 80–100 HP, carrying 30 to 48 L-shaped hardened blades. The side drive uses a gear train, an adjustable safety clutch protects the driveline, and the three-point hitch uses standard Category I pins, mounted centrally behind the tractor.

Pick the width by tractor power: 1,300 mm for 30–45 HP, 1,550 mm for 45–65 HP, 1,800 mm for 65–80 HP and 2,050 mm for 80–100 HP. Run the rotor slower for a coarser finish and faster for a fine seedbed, and always check the safety clutch is adjusted before starting in stony ground.

Before you buy the Rotary Cultivator

A rotary cultivator is a good all-round choice when you want a fine seedbed quickly. Check the working width and the PTO speed against your tractor, and decide whether you need a safety clutch for stony ground. Spare blades are cheap and worth ordering with the machine.

Questions

Questions about the Rotary Cultivator

That depends on your forward speed and the rotor speed. Drive slowly for a very fine tilth, or faster for a coarser finish that holds together better in windy or heavy-rain areas.
