How the Boom Sprayer works
The boom sprayer is a tractor-mounted, PTO-operated sprayer for applying pesticides, repellents and nutrients across a wide range of crops. Tanks of 500 to 1,000 litres, in durable fibreglass or plastic, give you the right amount for the job.
A spray boom of 42.5 to 55 feet carries 24 to 34 hollow-cone nozzles, fed by a PTO-driven diaphragm pump delivering 100 L/min, with stainless-steel filters at the tank inlet, pipes and each nozzle. The tank fills in about 8 minutes, boom height and width are adjustable, and the sprayer covers 8–10 acres an hour with tractors of 50–85 HP and more. Total weight with boom is 240 to 400 kg.
Calibrate the sprayer before every season: measure the output of each nozzle and replace any that differ noticeably. Choose the tank size for your fields (500–1,000 L) and a boom length of 42.5 to 55 ft, and never spray in strong wind. Wear protective clothing and follow every chemical's label.
